JUDGE KELLY MIMS for CIRCUIT COURT JUDGE *First, I would like to wish Senior Circuit Judge Thomas J. Gardner well in his announced retirement at the end of 2018. His mentorship and grace have meant a lot to me personally and to my career.

Why I’m running...

As a long time member of the legal profession, I have witnessed first hand some of the problems we in our community are facing in the days ahead. I believe my experience, expertise, compassion and desire to serve others make me a good candidate for Circuit Court Judge and will prepare me to serve first district for years to come. Let me tell you a little about myself:

A servant of Christ: As a member of the Northeast Church of Christ in Tupelo, MS, I serve as a deacon and attend services 3 times a week. I believe we have a great burden and responsibility to help our fellow man. I hope to use my position as Circuit Judge to help not only the victims of crimes by punishing wrongdoers but also to use a comprehensive set of tools in sentencing to give help to those who will help themselves and do something about our spiraling drug epidemic.

A Family Man: Married to my high school sweetheart, Lynn, we make our home in Lee County where we are raising 4 children: Parker, Carson, Jared and Avery. Our family focuses on serving God, but afterwards, we make time for Mississippi State Football and many other family activities. We are into fitness and like to run races, as well as soccer, baseball and hunting. My wife and I served as foster parents with the Lee County Department of Human Services and have adopted one child from foster care.

Military: I have served in the United States Military for almost 30 years. Currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves, I serve as a Battalion Commander for the 11th BN Infantry, 2nd BDE, 95th DIV, 108th Training Command, out of Phoenix, Arizona, where I command over 200 drill sergeants spread across 4 states. I spent 20 years in the Mississippi National Guard, where I served in the 155th Armored Brigade out of Tupelo, MS, deploying to combat in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom III in 2005. My awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals, and many others.

Education and Legal Career: Growing up in Plantersville, Mississippi, I attended Plantersville Junior High and then graduated from Tupelo High School. After joining the military and completing basic training at Fort Knox, KY, I attended Mississippi State University where I graduated with a Bachelors of Business Administration. Later, I attended the University of Mississippi School of Law. I opened my private practice in Tupelo in 2000, where I have been a practicing member of the Mississippi Bar since then, operating a full service law firm. I have been a Lee County Public Defender since 2002, a town attorney of Plantersville since 2010, a prosecutor for eight years and a Municipal Judge for the Town of Plantersville, and Judge Pro Tem for the Towns of Shannon and Guntown.
